You make it sound like his work would have been better if he couldn&#039;t paint, as if his virtuosity was a hindrance to you.  Did you forget to notice how startling these paintings are? I&#039;m ecstatic that &quot;the man could paint.&quot; They still look good, and they still possess striking depth.  I hesitate, as well, to attribute this to his mental illness, I&#039;d rather attribute that to his thoughtfulness as an artist.</description>
