This is such an accurate presentation of the cross-section of people with whom we live and associate during our lives. A very "democratic" presentation that reaches into the viewer's soul as it reached into the soul of each Maquoketan sitter. Rose's facility as a painter of direct portraits is masterly and exceptional...to me, she outshines even John Singer Sargent in painting her subjects!
