Michael Grothusen channeling Anish Kapoor and Quentin Morris. The show Paper Jam at My House Gallery includes not only us but some great surprises as well. Above is a piece by the wonderful Michael Grothusen, a piece with enough gravitas to hold the entire wall. Jonathan Berger also has a piece in this show. My own Eoin Burke. I got to take home a piece by Eoin Burke. I’m always a sucker for giveaways, this one available from a small carton pinned to the wall. Metaphysical Conflation at UArts

Snippets from Conflation.  1 minute 12 seconds. One of the best collaborative installations we’ve seen in a while is down at UArts’ Hamilton/Arronson Galleries right now. Conflation/Living Above the Store brings together sculpture, video and sound in a rendering of a pre- and post-apocalyptic city. Both shows draw from graduates of local art schools, with the Philadelphia Sculptors-organized “Five Into One” focused on sculpture. Nexus Selects takes a more multi-disciplinary approach, with photography, video and ... More » »

Survival plan for First Friday

First Friday was swell, and apparently, it was a good thing we went at 5, because we heard reports later that the galleries and streets of Old City were brimming with art lovers. Here are some pix from what we saw. Joseph Hu used his own hair for the bristles in his replica of his grandfather’s brush for clearing off eraser debris. It was one of a number of wonderful personal items he created for his first solo show at Pentimenti Gallery. Another outstanding piece was a replica of a shirt. But I loved each and every piece. Hu has ... More » »

I got an email from University of the Arts student Eoin Burke inviting me to the students’ senior thesis show. The image attached intrigued me so I wrote back. ME: Your work looks tres Yves Klein.
