Common Place at Extra Extra Lends Environmental Insight

April Fool’s jokes aside, the installation Common Place, which opened on April 1 at Extra Extra, is as thoughtful as it is playful. It’s an ambitious experiment in the social and the private, as well as the natural and the synthetic. It is the joint brainchild of three artists: Beth Brandon, Samantha Margherita, and Luren Jenison, who came together after noting similar themes in each others’ work.

Can’t you hear the music on First Friday West

Caitlin the intern took the East side and I took the West side of First Friday–hitting the Fabric Workshop and Museum, Vox Populi, Space 1026 and Black Floor. There was lots to look at, lots to ponder–and lots to love. Paul Chan and the Fabric Workshop Paul Chan’s 1st Light (I don’t know how to make the word Light look crossed out; sorry) silenced the usually chatty gallery goers.
