Matthew Neff, Chance Encounter Number One, wood, ephemera, 2008 If you’re not on your toes, you might miss Art Glut. It opened Friday and closes after today. But don’t miss it if you can possibly get there. (Roberta did this as an editor’s pick for the Weekly). The sculpture in this show rocks; and the people organizing it come out of UArts’ sculpture department. There’s also some terrific 2-D stuff. And I loved the mix of DIY and not-so-DIY. While trailing all the hot spots that Roberta visited the week before (23 Degrees at the Ice Box and Naked Paper at Tower Gallery) I picked up some bits of info worth sharing. On the business side, the enormous Crane Arts Building is fully rented out as of Sept. 1, co-owner Nick Kripal said when I bumped into him at the CFEVA 23 Degrees exhibit. Wow!!! I saw five wonderful shows last week. I’ll tell you here about 23 Degrees at the Icebox Project Space a CFEVA show with 23 new associate artists making a debut. It’s a massive show, each artist represented by more than one work, but because it isn’t curated it’s a show of individuals whose works don’t speak so much with the neighbors. That said, it’s a strong show of strong works.
