Soft-spoken Andrew Jeffrey Wright talks stand-up comedy, family and making it on $500 a month
Andrew Jeffrey Wright is known for his humorous drawings and prints, psychedelic pattern paintings, and most recently his stand-up comedy routine, which he performs regularly Tuesday nights at the Barbary. Wright, who is a founding and current member of Space 1026, made his first splash with The Manipulators, an animated film he co-produced with then-girlfriend, Clare Rojas (see the 1 and a half minute video –hilarious). That fashion-lampoon, done with magazine pictures altered with whiteout, won Wright and Rojas the top prize for animation at the New York Underground Film Festival. Ted Passon’s car got flipped when the Phillies fans in South Philly went bananas the night the Phillies won the World Series. We heard this sad story about how Phillies fans flipped Ted Passon‘s car on South Broad Street the night the Phillies won the World Series. Thanks to Mark Price for sending us an email on this. Small Change brings Philly videos to the world or at least to Brooklyn!
Local video group Small Change is going ON TOUR with a program of experimental films and videos and music videos from PHILADELPHIA!! Videos screened include work by Philadelphia artists including Ryan Trecartin, Sarah Christman, Dave Dunn, Ted Passon, Andrew Jeffrey Wright, Chris Ward, and Michael Robinson. Tour begins with a barn screening in Kimberton PA tonight then moves to Brooklyn, New England, upstate New York and Canada. The screening tomorrow night in Brooklyn sounds great, with Sweatheart playing music, Andrew Jeffrey Wright doing standup comedy with props and Mark Price‘s Cars Will Burn doing its thing. I made arrangements to visit Padlock Gallery for the first time, to catch Mark Price’s exhibition “Soft Comfort Forever Please” (and you’ll have to make arrangements; this private gallery is in owner, Ted Passon’s South Philly house. I admit I’m late to discover Price (although I bought a package of his buttons at Minnow when Libby and I visited a month or so ago; I wear them on my winter jacket).
