What we want to see Friday

artblog focus group

(left to right) Roberta, Nadia, Anita, Andrew (behind column), Leah, Juliana (behind Leah), Josh, and Roxana artblog loves Art 21 so we invited artists from Vox Populi to screen some of Art 21′s episodes with us–a sort of focus group for the newest iteration of the show, which is scheduled to air on PBS beginning Oct. 28. We–Roxana Perez-Mendez, Andrew Suggs, Julianna Foster, Anita Allyn, Nadia Hironaka, Leah Bailis, Josh Rickards plus the artblog duo Roberta and Libby–looked at five episodes out of the 16 , which will be spread over four programs. First Friday with limits

Adam Cooper on guitar in the one-night performance/installation Breakfast at Tiffany’s, at Copy Gallery Hey, First Friday was great–at least all that we saw of it, which wasn’t much given Roberta has the sniffles and I was plain old tired. Here’s what we saw:Copy Gallery had a pretty funny one-night performance. Adam Cooper, tented in a hilarious costume by Elsa Shadley, was on guitar; the gallery was decorated in piss-elegant splendor, a lit-up nightclub with reflective mylar and floral sconces, hanging stuffed plastic bags from the ceiling, blue draperies, and clothes strewn across the floor, implying either earlier debauchery or ... Weekly Update – Vox Populi’s New Members Show

This week’s Weekly has my a-list review of Vox Populi’s new member’s show. Below is the copy with a few pictures. More photos at flickr. MY VOX IN A BOX Brent Wahl, Tear, at Vox Populi’s new members’ show. Tear is nicely ambiguous–it’s a tear drop shape but the dance it does is like a tear on a tear. Weekly Update 2 – Spring art emerges and looks good

Can’t you hear the music on First Friday West

Caitlin the intern took the East side and I took the West side of First Friday–hitting the Fabric Workshop and Museum, Vox Populi, Space 1026 and Black Floor. There was lots to look at, lots to ponder–and lots to love. Paul Chan and the Fabric Workshop Paul Chan’s 1st Light (I don’t know how to make the word Light look crossed out; sorry) silenced the usually chatty gallery goers.
