News Warren Angle died Friday We are sad to bring you the news that Warren Angle passed away on Friday, September 9 after a long battle with cancer. Angle, an artist, was the exhibitions director of the Fleisher Art Memorial for many years. He will certainly be missed by many. There’s a Facebook page set up as a memorial for Warren.
About a year ago, a discussion at P’unk Ave about Philly’s need for more critical art writing–and/or a different brand of it than artblog and the print newspapers offer–was a gauntlet thrown down to Philadelphia’s artists, curators, art writers and thinkers. We got a special tour of Skyscraper, the Philadelphia Museum of Art theme show devoted to buildings in New York, Philadelphia and Chicago. John Vick, the show’s curator, who was a fellow in the Department of Prints, Drawings, and Photographs, gave us the tour. John has also been writing posts on artblog for the theoretically page and we were eager to see what he had to say about his show.
John Vick is a curatorial fellow in the Department of Prints, Drawings, and Photographs at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. He has a Master’s degree in Art History from the University of Pennsylvania. Successful artworks seem to fall under one of two humors – they can call attention to themselves overtly or be so plainly understated as to provoke curiosity.
