Artists Call for Guggenheim Boycott over Migrant Worker Exploitation in Abu Dhabi

Hans Haacke made me aware of the following situation which I’m passing along to Artblog readers: More than 130 international artists, curators, writers and others have signed a boycott to end all cooperation with the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi and are demanding that the Guggenheim Foundation and its Abu Dhabi partner take immediate and meaningful steps to safeguard the rights of the workers constructing the new branch museum on Saadiyat Island, where Human Rights Watch have documented a series of abuses.

Once again International House (I House) is the best venue in Philadelphia for films about art or by artists as well as early film classics.  The upcoming season includes : Thursday, Sept. 23 films by the Lumière Brothers and Georges Méliès. The beginnings of French cinema that established many of its conventions. Méliès particularly loved special effects.

Ernesto Neto in London: The Edges of the World

Post by Judith Stein To get to The Edges of the World, Brazilian artist Ernesto Neto’s extraordinary installation at London’s Hayward Gallery, you first have to find the Hayward. It is situated above street level in the cultural complex known as the South Bank Centre. You might approach it from the Thames walkway, mounting one of three hulking stairways gamely painted yellow, blue or red, to arrive at the Hayward’s front door. Better yet, walk across Waterloo Bridge heading south and step down directly into its entrance courtyard.
