Panel discussion on Urbanism at PAFA – today at 2pm

It’s going to be a rainy day–perfect for a panel discussion! Come out for the panel, The Role of Place in Contemporary Art at 2pm today, at PAFA’s historic Frank Furness building. The panel is in conjunction with the exhibit Urbanism, organized by PAFA Curator of Contemporary Art, Julien Robson.  Robson will moderate and panelists include two artists in the show, Ben Peterson and Arden Bendler Browning, bloggers Libby and Roberta (ahem), Boston Phoenix critic and blogger Greg Cook, and Mark Harris, Director of the School of Art at the University of Cincinnati. Humor at Work: Beauvais Lyons at the American Philosophical Society and The Dufala Brothers at Haverford College

I’d met Beauvais Lyons and been aware of his work before I  met my friend, Barbara,  in the garden opposite the Museum of the American Philosophical Society (APS) where Lyons had set up his display last week (on through tomorrow).  Most of those who stopped by, however, had no reason to know this wasn’t another educational display within Independence National Historical Park.

Selling the Dufalas

I don’t guess the Steven and Billy Blaise Dufala need as much of a spiel to sell their work, now that they’ve won the West Prize. It’s about time! When I stopped by their show Trophy at Fleisher/Ollman Friday, there were lots of red dots scattered through the list of works.

 The timing couldn’t have been better.  The day after the Dufala brothers won the West Prize grand prize (cash purse of $25,000) on Feb. 26, their first solo show at Fleisher-Ollman Gallery opened (Feb 27).  So of course what did the brothers do after winning the West prize?  They went back to their studios to finish up work for the show, of course!  

Breaking news–West Prize to Dufalas!!!!

From Claire Iltis at Fleisher-Ollman: Hi Libby and Roberta, I don’t know if you’ve heard this already, but last night The Dufala Brothers were awarded the West Prize Grand Prize! Steven and Billy Blaise Dufala, Ice Cream Tank Truck,, now part of the West Collection. You saw it first at Space 1026.

West Prize finalists show at SEI

We dashed out to the West Collection at SEI in Oaks last month for a peek at the West Prize Finalists exhibit before the Grand Prize Winner is announced on Feb. 26.
