Art F City bestowed some affections on us this week – twice! We first got a mention for Andrew Jeffrey Wright’s “Bubble Butts” Bananazz, then a retrospective on the century-long career of a female Jewish Ashcan School painter Theresa Bernstein. Thank you kindly, friends.

Just installed this week, drivers on their way to Philadelphia via Interstate 95 can now see a dancer running the steps like nobody’s watching. Vikki Sloviter, the winner of Visit Philadelphia’s summertime photo contest, now has her photo of a dancer doing the famous steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art as a 60-by-16-foot billboard in Philadelphia through November 17. The billboard is visible from the southbound lane of I-95 with the city in the background. The entry beat out 3,000 entries to win the Phillyosophy billboard contest, with the five finalists receiving votes 11,000 times in one week. Here’s a look back at the contest results.

In the second ever show at Cruxspace, Martin Peeves, the nom de plume of Eric Abaka returns. With an arsenal of his digital mashups and triply weirdness, he’s following up the recent Icebox Begin Where You Are show on First Friday, November 7 from 6-9 PM.

Behemoth visual and performance artist Carolee Schneemann is giving a free performative lecture at Bryn Mawr College on Saturday, November 8. In conjunction with her visit, Bryn Mawr Film Institute is screening Breaking the Frame, the new documentary about Schneemann’s life and work before the live performance.

A planting of 1000 heirloom acorns to try to grow a forest: sounds like what you’d get up to around Kennett Square. Street Road Artists’ Space is commandeering the intersection of Routes 926 and 41, north of Kennett Square for an acorn planting on land that Street Road owns but that PennDOT might claim by eminent domain sometime in the next few years. The artist, UK native Adrian Barron began this as his own response to clear cutting of forests in the UK; over time it took on a Pennsylvania-specific dimension. It’s also the closing day for Arterial Motives, which we mentioned back in May. The whole day is chock full of participatory acorn planting, the work of local group S.A.V.E. showing newly commissioned traffic study animation, and the generous offerings of the Nomadic Pies food truck.
