Dear Friend of Artblog,

Artblog is now 16 years old! Through the years your generosity and friendship have cheered us on and helped fund our passionate writing, podcasts, and projects like the annual Art Writing Challenge. You are an important part of the Artblog story, and we thank you for being there for us and with us. Through your support Artblog has become the recognized leader in online arts and culture coverage in Philadelphia! As we move into our 17th year, we invite you to make a generous donation today to support our unique service to Philadelphia's artists and arts community.

NEWS!

  • Our first Performance Evening at Tattooed Mom, in June, was a big success. The house was packed, and the performers and poets gave their all. Together with the live podcast interview of Streets Department's Conrad Benner, it was a memorable evening, and we will do more.
  • Artblog's first book is coming! A significant milestone, the anthology of winning essays from the the Art Writing Challenge is a showcase for the winning writers and an affirmation of the important work Artblog does in the community. We couldn't have done it without your support. And we are indebted to Mari Shaw for her vision and support and to the PA Council on the Arts for their support.
  • Artblog is now the proud recipient of a Philadelphia Cultural Fund grant, which provides operating support for our work! Also exciting, The Knight Foundation selected us to participate in their new “Building the Capacity to Innovate and Adapt” program for Philadelphia's arts organizations.

You care deeply about Philadelphia's arts community and so do we. We pledge to you that we will continue to discover, engage, mentor and compensate talented emerging writers and provide you with the best quality commentary and the liveliest and most informative podcasts and programming. In this 16th Anniversary Year, please support our important mission by making a generous contribution now.

Thank you!

Our Value Is Proven

  • Digital archives value our site. University of Pennsylvania is archiving Artblog's 16 years of coverage of Philadelphia art, making it available in its free online public archive.
  • Reader testimonials applaud our Inclusiveness, independence and thoughtful content.
  • Foundations select us for grants. Knight Foundation, J-Lab/William Penn, Samuel Fels Fund, Phantasos and other private foundations awarded Artblog grants.
  • National arts influencers say we are excellent. Art in America cited us twice; we were finalists for Warhol-Creative Capital Arts Writing Program.
  • We create jobs and pay our writers, editors and staff. Artblog is a small business that contributes to the economic growth of Philadelphia's art sector.
  • We are tech-savvy leaders. In 2015—ahead of other leading online art publications, Artblog became mobile responsive to serve readers who reach us via mobile devices.

We are committed to maintaining the excellence of Artblog's content, design and technology going forward. Your contribution helps us grow our leadership team and manage daily operations of our award-winning publication.

Our Annual Appeal is open now through December 31, 2019.

What People Say

The thread of consistency that you have had through so many different versions of Philadelphia and all the art spaces, DIY and commercial...I really feel very thankful and indebted to how attentive you are to everything that's going on. So, truly, thank you.

— Will Owen, Philadelphia artist, Member, Little Berlin

There is nothing like it in the area to learn about what exhibitions are "must see" in Philadelphia.

— Judy Herman, Emeritus Director of the Main Line Art Center

Thanks for your long term project which has been such a generous resource for Philly's art community.

— Jennifer Johnson, Tyler MFA 2016

Artblog is a voice of what's happening in the city at this moment.

— Rob Blackson, Director, Temple Contemporary

Cities of the 21st Century are for the creation of culture. And I think it's playing out here. The Artblog is right on top of that, and I value it for that.

— Nathaniel Popkin, author, Co-editor, Hidden City Daily

Art can be difficult at times; art can be challenging. Artblog writes in a manner that tries to make it accessible to a lot of people.

— Dave Kyu, artist, writer and project manager

Artblog's two major strengths are its inclusiveness and independence. Because of that inclusiveness and independence the organization can exist as an inviting and open "neutral territory" amidst a cultural landscape that is fragmented and partitioned by school affiliation, artistic difference, generation, and especially the heinous forms of social stratification that disenfranchise communities along racial, cultural, and socio-economic lines.

— Gee Wesley, Co-founder, Ulises Bookshop, Program Director, Recess

I think what I really, really, really love about Artblog is that it considers everything… What Artblog does is the universe of the arts in Philadelphia

— Thora Jacobson, Executive Director, Philadelphia Art Alliance

I go to a lot of things and see a lot of things. I can't see everything, so I can find out about things I'm missing by going to the Artblog.

— Sarah McEneaney, artist, Philadelphia
