It’s hard to believe it’s almost April, marking over than a year since the imposed Covid-19 restrictions. With new information stating Biden will soon announce that “90% of adults will be eligible to get a coronavirus vaccine within the next three weeks,” it seems that April can’t come soon enough! Make sure you’re registered not only through your county, state or municipality, but also your local pharmacies. We hope that everyone who wants a vaccine will soon have access to one.

In the meantime, we hope you enjoy this short list of artist opportunities, including new grants for individual artists and/or non-profits from the NEW Forman Arts Initiative and Philadelphia Foundation and an opportunity to produce a mural about food justice with Mural Arts and GIANT. Read all about them below!

Grants for Individual Artists and Nonprofits – Art Works – Deadline: Apr. 23, 2021

Forman Arts Initiative (FAI) and Philadelphia Foundation are launching
Art Works, a new $3 million grant program for community-based organizations and emerging artists. Art Works is designed to support arts, culture and creativity working in partnership with Black, Indigenous and people of color (BIPOC) and other under-served communities. This is the inaugural program from the Forman Arts Initiative and will provide direct grants to regional artists and organizations that are critical to Greater Philadelphia’s rich diversity.

Art Works was designed to support the arts and culture community, which experienced extraordinary setbacks during the COVID-19 pandemic. The new program will select four organizations annually to receive two-year, unrestricted grants of up to $200,000 per year. Four emerging artists will receive two-year grants of $10,000 per year. The program is open to both visual and performing artists. Art Works creators should aspire to influence Greater Philadelphia’s civic identity and have deep roots in its communities.

RFQ, Food Justice Mural – Mural Arts Philadelphia & GIANT – Deadline: Apr. 19, 2021

Theme: Food Justice is Racial Justice
Mural Arts Philadelphia is proud to partner with The GIANT Company on a major project about the intersection between food justice and racial justice. This project seeks to engage organizations, activists and communities working towards equity in Food Justice. We will explore connections between food systems and racial injustice to shed a wider light on a critical question: How can we transform our food systems into equitable engines for healthy, empowered communities?

We are seeking artists to create a permanent mural that reflects on the theme of food justice and is explored through a community engagement process. This mural will be installed at the underpass on 23rd St. between Market and Arch Streets and will be approximately 4,000 square feet.

This project is open to artists or artist teams who have experience in public art and/or community engagement. Both established and emerging artists are encouraged to apply. Artists must be citizens of the U.S. or have U.S. work authorization.

Deadline: 5 pm EDT, April 19, 2021
