Philadelphia Museum of Art displays Vermeer’s Lady with a Guitar

June 10 – late 2023

Lady with a Guitar (1672) is the publics opportunity to see Vermeer’s painting in unrestored condition prior to continued research with Vermeer experts and the Philadelphia Museum of Art(PMA). Lady with a Guitar is part of the John G. Johnson Collection at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. It had been cataloged as a copy for almost a century. In March 2023 at Vermeer Symposium in Amsterdam a speaker suggested it could be by Vermeer. In light of new findings the PMA plans pursue further studies in collaboration with Vermeer experts. Before the painting is studied and restored it will be on view from June 10 through late 2023 in Gallery 364.
