If you haven’t seen David Kessler’s gutsy documentary about Zoe Strauss, tonight’s the night to catch it at its World Premiere!

$10 at www.firstpersonarts.org or 800.838.3006
The First Person Stage at 2111 Sansom Street

From the p.r.:

The documentary If You Break the Skin, You Must Come In does more than just scratch the surface of the lives it examines. When a group of adolescents in foster care were chosen to help make a film about maverick photographer Zoe Strauss, the process was turned inside out by having them turn the camera on themselves. The result is a sobering, but ultimately uplifting, look at using art to find joy and magic in the world that surrounds us. The screening will be followed by a discussion with Strauss, the director David Kessler, and the young filmmakers; one of whom, Charday Laverty, also curated the show of Strauss’s photographs that will be on exhibit throughout the festival.

Hey this movie is an experience. Hope you get to see it!!! And meet those kids, too!!!

…not to mention cameo appearances by Libby and Roberta!!

I saw this movie when it was previewed at ICA, and again last night. David Kessler did a fantastic job with this documentary…. he took on a much larger project and far greater challenges in making this film than he was originally hired to do. This project needs to be seen by a wide audience.

As I recall, Roberta actually said something. I just smiled.

You are so right about what a great movie this is, and I do hope it gets to be seen more widely. It is not only wonderful and heartwarming, but it is of interest to people beyond the art world–social workers, educators, and just all human beings!

  3. Christopher Paquette says:

the film is now 90 minutes long…. much more footage was added since the version I saw at ICA. There are several spoken quotes from both of you…. seemed to be at an outdoor event, maybe I-95 2006?

We hear the show was sold out!!! Annette Monnier and her friend couldn’t get in.
