This just in from Rachel Perry Welty, whom we saw at Pulse. BTW, her gallery, Yancey Richardson, sold out all her work at the fair! Good going! So now Rachel is celebrating with a Facebook performance–another big step for humankind in cyberspace. Here’s what she wrote:
Just wanted to let you all know that I am doing a performance in my status bar on facebook tomorrow, March 11, from the time I wake up until the time that I go to sleep. It’s called “Rachel is” and every 60 seconds for about 16 hours I’ll update my status via my handheld device in an attempt to faithfully answer the question, ”What are you doing right now?” My hope is to raise more questions about narcissism, voyeurism, privacy, identity and authority, as issues we consider in a technologically modern world. Your comments are welcomed throughout the day.Of course you’ll have to join facebook (if you’re not already a member) and request me as a friend, to view or participate and that may stop many of you right there, which I understand! …

Hi art lover, I’m not familiar with so much facebook art. Mark Held’s portraits based on facebook profiles I’ve seen but apart from that what else is there?
I think it’s Matt Held, and social media art is the new.
me too, i want to know. tell us more, dear lover
Thanks Becky, I meant Matt Held. Here’s the link to his facebook portraits. http://www.heldstudios.com/gallery/v/facebook/ We heard about this project at the blogpix panel from Sharon Butler who was there and had her portrait painted by Held.
