Last time I saw Annette Monnier (at Little Berlin’s BYOTY last weekend), she said she was going to take the West Philly el tour of ex-graffiti artist Steve Powers’ A Love Letter for You series of murals for the Mural Arts Program. I said I was going to do that too, but she got it done, and what a job she did! Here’s what she had to say.

I used to ride the El everyday to West Philly, except Sunday. This is my favorite art piece in Philadelphia right now and I am so proud we got it. You can tell Steve knows the city, the vernacular, the text, speaks to Philadelphia —- West Philadelphia in particular. There is an old mural around 52nd Street station and it was always half finished, but whenever I saw it I felt it was part of it’s charm and then I saw again recently – Powers had painted on the wall, of course – it’s a nice big wall, but he left the half finished mural. Aw. thanks.
