Antonio Puri in his North Philadelphia studio

Born in Chandigarh, India and educated in the Unites States, Antonio Puri came to art in a round-about way.  He first received a law degree from the University of Iowa and later studied art in Iowa and San Francisco. His art is abstract and his thinking is philosophical, and yes, legal.  An artist with a global perspective and a social consciousness, he started an artist barter project, Art4Barter, that involves artists from around the world, who trade their works for services. In this excerpt from our interview, he talks about the reason he started the project. See his website for more about his art and come back next week for the full podcast episode.

  1. barter is a terrific idea…I remember Elaine DeKooning paying for her dental work with a painting. Right now all of our family need dental work…but no dentist in sight.

  2. roberta says:

Rosalyn, we should all do more bartering! I hope you can find a receptive dentist!
