Angel O – is there life after art school?

Our series sponsor is Fleisher Art Memorial. Philadelphia’s job market was no friend to Angel O when she graduated from Moore College almost two years ago. We tracked her down living with her family in Harrisburg, working at a nut store, and writing screen plays. O has a great sense of humor–about Harrisburg’s art scene, her so-called life as an artist and her job hunt. Below is a brief sample from the interview and following that, the full 10-minute interview. [Audio clip: view full post to listen] Right click to download Angel O 22-second promo

Life after college with Angel O on artblog radio

A year and a half has passed since Angel O graduated from Moore College of Art. She had some work at the Great and Terrible Collective in the fall, but we wondered why we weren’t seeing more from this original young artist. She’s thinking about how to bring new life to the art scene in Harrisburg–and how to bring new life to her own art career. She made us laugh and she made us cry. Listen next Monday for the full episode. ... More » »

Video Served Three Ways – Little Berlin, Great and Terrible Collective and Rebekah Templeton

I am sometimes impatient with video art. I complain about the seating (or lack thereof) the tiny screens, weird sounds conflicting as you move from one display to the next, but I am here to sing the joys of three shows where video is a pivotal element. This weekend is your last chance to see the shows at Little Berlin and Great and Terrible Collective, while the wonderful live!infili! at Rebekah Templeton has already finished. These shows include sculpture, drawing, animation, installation, and sound and light displays, but each showcases video in a unique or adventurous way.

Student post, Part 2

Here are some pictures of work we liked in the graduating student shows. We spent some time with and interviewed some of these graduates but mostly our observations are from seeing the works in the shows. Look for some of these artists to pop up around town because we know some of them are staying around and for sure they’re going to hook up with some alternative spaces and get themselves shown.
