News Candy Coated Wonderland isn’t coming until May, but let the thought of it carry you through the rest of this bone-chilling winter. As only she can, CandyCoated (formerly Candy Depew) is re-interpreting the Museum’s collection of children’s dress costumes with her unique textile art. Held in the Joan Spain Gallery at the Perelman Building from May to November 2013 and curated by Dylis Blum, CandyCoated envisions a storybook narrative, incorporating iconic children’s costumes. News Here’s a conundrum: if the world ends, you won’t get to see any of the apocalyptic-themed art around town, but if it doesn’t end, the apocalyptic-themed art will be robbed of context, at least unless we can put it all in a time capsule for the next time someone puts forth another end date for the universe as we know it. News Major congratulations to the recipients of the Pew Fellowships in the Arts (PFA) – thirteen artists are receiving $60,000 awards this year! Some of the talented and lucky recipients include visual artist Alex Da Corte, the Megawords team (visual artists Dan Murphy and Tony Smyrski), filmmaker Deron Albright, and documentary photographer Lori Waselchuk. For real – Gabe Tiberino at Arch Enemy
For many who have grown up in and around Philly, South Street is the embodiment of youthful rebellion. Gabe Tiberino, however, had a head start on everyone who ever loitered in Repo Records or blew their allowance on spiked wristcuffs from Zipperhead in high school: the artist had his first show on South Street at age eight.
