As we entered, Mami Kato and Caleb Nussear’s works were waiting for our appreciation, situated along the pond at the entrance to the Center. Nussear’s piece, composed of mirror and iron, ... The show, entitled Beyond Abstraction, was assembled by visiting curator Katrin Elia and consists of eight artists with mediums as wide-ranging as video and encaustic to fabric and wood. With such disparity even within the realm of abstractions, it is necessary to focus on a few aspects of the show.

Live & local at the PMA

Matthew Neff, Sugar Chandelier,” one of the current CFEVA artists on exhibit at the Philadelphia Museum of art in honor of CFEVA’s 25th anniversary. Nearly everyone in Philadelphia gripes about how the best way for a local artist to get in the Philadelphia Museum of Art is to die. But there’s a works on paper show up right now–Emerging to Established: Twenty-five Years of the Center for Emerging Visual Artists–the first ever CFEVA exhibit there, that belies the gripe.
