Explicit views of women’s pudenda have never been in short supply in New York City but one found them on 42nd St. (before Disney arrived), not in established art galleries. Inspired by Eve Ensler’s Vagina Monologues, Francis Naumann began collecting work for an exhibition and when it grew too large, enlisted David Nolan to join him; the exhibition, The Visible Vagina, continues at both galleries through March 20. Last month I attended the first screening of Muralmorphosis, the short animated film documenting the mural project of the same name curated by Sean Stoops (and organized by the Philadelphia Mural Arts Program) at 2nd and Race Streets during the 2009 Fringe Festival last September.
Before the daffodills bloom I want to quickly post a few pictures from our trip to New York. The day was notable for the Jeff Wall exhibit at MoMA which Libby told you about but also for a few other things, like running into a couple of large Chuck Close prints at Max Lang Gallery (in a show that also includes works by Franz Gertsch).
