Beth Heinly on the importance of collecting and community – an artblog radio podcast
Beth Heinly grew up in the Philadelphia area. She draws comic strips (under the title the 3:00 o’clock book) that tell humorous and dark stories from her life and she sometimes creates graphic novels, like a new one “Server Serial Killer” she is working on. (Beth’s day job is being a server at the Irish pub, Fado, so we are guessing she’s got lots of material to work with for her new book.) Spot Color and Books Not for Kindle at Nobrow Press, London – A Studio Visit
I learned of Nobrow Press when I saw one of their ‘books’ in the shop at the Whitechapel Art Gallery, London. I use quotes because the publication in question, Rise and Fall, by the American Artist, Micah Lindberg, was a text-less accordion fold (or leporello), printed on both sides. I wrote about it when discussing Holiday Books on November 6, 2012. I was struck by the quality of the printing, as well as the format, both of which were closer to a fine art print than to a traditional book. Ceci N’Est Pas Une Critique de Robert Crumb
The Musee de l’Art Modern de La Ville de Paris is hosting a retrospective of Robert Crumb. There is a lot to see. There is so much writing and drawing that one is reminded of newspapers of the 60′s and 70′s whose front pages were a gray on gray haze. I cannot give an objective appreciation of the show. Free workshops at black comix convention The 10th Annual East Coast Black Age of Comics Convention is back! Philadelphia will again host the convention on May 21 at The Crown Plaza Hotel on 1800 Market Street from 10 am – 7 pm.
