Under I-95 2007 Photo Post

Sales were brisk and the turnout was good at Zoe Strauss‘s Under I-95 show and sale last Sunday. This was the 7th annual show and sale of works from Strauss’s ten-year Philadelphia Art Project. Libby and I were there. Brent Burket came over from New York, Silverstein Photography (Chelsea gallery where the artist’s solo show opens May 17) turned out. Elyse Gonzalez and Johanna Plummer of ICA were there; Pepon Osorio was there. Paula Marincola was there. We met photographer Isaac Schell which was a treat. David Kessler was filming for the documentary on Strauss that he’s making. Ditta Baron Hoeber and Frank Hoeber was there. Alex Da Corte had biked over for it. Whitney Museum’s Frank ___ was there (the MC at Zoe Strauss night at the Whitney–I’m blanking on his name, sorry). Rob Matthews was there and posted on it. Samantha Simpson was there and posted on it. I’m sure I’m leaving out many folks, and I’m sorry for that. The event was a love-fest. Below are a few pictures. That is all. I have more pictures at flickr.

Brent Burket holding the photo he nabbed off the pillar at 4 pm when the show was over and everything was up for grabs. There was some competition for this abstract photo and Brent had just beaten out another eager art lover (the artist's mom, Ilene!) who was a minute to late getting to the right pillar. They both laughed.

People really looked closely at the works. Libby managed to see all 231 pictures!!! I darted back and forth, a little too hyper to settle in to a methodical approach. It was a great day, although a little windy in the big cave.
