Dear Friend of Artblog,
It is with mixed emotions that we write to tell you that Artblog will be closing our operations this year. We prefer to talk of it as sunsetting, but apart from that difference in wording, the actions and outcomes will be the same.
We are at a change point, with our Executive Director and Editor Roberta Fallon stepping down on Jan. 1, 2026, to pursue new passion projects, and she is irreplaceable to the organization. The secondary reason we are closing is that we do not have a sustainable business model and have always run on sweat equity and DIY ingenuity – which has been largely donated to the organization from Roberta. It was a difficult decision, but the right one to take, and we will conclude our operations sometime before the summer, with care for those who write and work with us.
Our 21-year archive of the arts in Philadelphia will remain up as long as possible, and we welcome community input on how to best maintain this archive. Our YouTube, Instagram and podcast channels will likewise remain online. We will keep the Artblog Connect website going, with its user-upload platform of events and exhibits.
In our 21+ years of operations in Philadelphia, we believe we have done much good here and helped create a sense of community in our robust and resilient arts sector. We are proud to have created an archive of a time and a place, with writing by hundreds of local writers, many of whom are artists. We hope you will agree with us that the journey has been worth the blood, sweat and tears – the passion we have poured into our project. We hope we have touched you in some way.
Artblog’s closing after 21 years deserves a big celebration. And we invite you to celebrate with us. As a friend and supporter, you have been our audience, our cherished readers, listeners, participants in our programs and parties. You are why we created Artblog, and why we continued through the years.
Our public farewell bash will be on Thursday, October 23, 2025, at Moore College of Art and Design. We will send out the notice and invitation before then, but please save the date! Meanwhile, with all our heart, we thank you for your constant and generous support.
Sincerely,
