Michelle Post just received a commission from Grounds for Sculpture for ten large painted aluminum sculptures to be placed in a permanent installation in the Fall, 2013. Post, a self-taught artist who has worked in wood engraving as well as sculpture, showed the original prototypes for her commission at DaVinci Art Alliance last fall and the ten figurative larger-than-life heads on tall plinths are visceral and amusing and somewhat reminiscent of the characters drawn by Daumier or other wry commentators on humankind warts and all. Listen to the short sample below in which Michelle talks about discovering the character heads within the foam she was carving. And hear the entire episode next week.
