Cooking books

The exhibit

houserinstallationI hadn’t gotten to Jim Houser’s installation /exhibit, “Babel,” at Spector Gallery until last week, and boy was I bowled over. He has borrowed from super graphics and set design and his own iconography to transform the space with images and incantatory words into someplace inviting and energized with magic spirits. Roberta did go on about it in the Weekly, so I don’t see that I have much to add other than enthusiasm (left, “Babel” installation detail).

The book is cooking, indeed

houserfakesSpeaking of enthusiasm, more of Houser’s book, also called “Babel,” (Gingko Press/ May 2005, 9″x 7″, 90 pages,$25) are due to arrive any day now at the gallery, said Shelley Spector the day I dropped in. She sold out the first 100 at the opening (right, “Babel” installation detail)!

Portfolio reviews

Spector also mentioned that she still had some openings in her schedule of portfolio reviews, which begin today at 2:30 p.m. She’s got a good eye, lives in the real world, and is a kind person, so pull some pieces together and call for an appointment. Here’s the info on the reviews.
