We are very excited for two rare opportunities: First, the chance to see Dona Nelson’s paintings in person in Philadelphia (doesn’t happen very often!). Second, a chance to hear four Black Guggenheim photography fellows — Donald E. Camp, Ron Tarver, Wendel White and William Earle Williams — speak about their work in a virtual/in person event is likewise a rare opportunity. Meanwhile, things are opening this Spring, and the Second Thursday openings on the American Street corridor are expanding. Yaroub Al Obaidi on ‘Al Mudhif – A Confluence,’ an Added Velocity Spotlight Interview

Yaroub Al Obaidi, speaks with Roberta about their project “Al Mudhif – A Confluence” in this second Added Velocity awardee spotlight! Al Mudhif is a “a traditional Iraqi ceremonial structure made entirely out of phragmites reed.” With the $15,000 Added Velocity award, collaborators Yaroub Al Obaidi and Sarah Kavage will dismantle and document the structure after damage from Hurricane Ida.

We are excited to share the generous micro grant project, The P(h)ew Awards, created by Rami George to pass along 10% of their recent Pew Fellowship award to queer and trans artists, writers, performers and musicians in the Philadelphia region. Congratulations, Rami, on this thoughtful and brilliant project! And congratulations to each of the 16 P(h)ew winners, including several with connections to Artblog: Corey Qureshi, Jordan Deal, Savan DePaul, and Suldano Abdiruhman!
