Robin, who shows his work at Gallery Joe wrote this: The piece is in terminal “C”, Tampa International Airport. Material: aluminum, concrete. The dimensions: 13 x 9 x 4′. Commissioned by Hillsborough County Aviation Authority. Architect: Albert Alfonso of Alfonso Architects.
Orange blossom is the sate flower of Florida. The design and material of the sculpture reflects the architect’s interest in the early years of aviation, Eero Saarinen’s TWA terminal at JFK Airport, and the Moderne style of the late ’30s, early ’40s. The work sits directly under a circular skylight (known as the “oculus”), which opens out below to a massive oval shape.
